Unless someone modeled a specific relational skill for you on a regular basis while you were growing up, the skill will not magically appear the moment you become aware of it. Relational skills require time, practice and intention to develop. Here is where skill practice courses can help!

Why Skill Practice?

Practicing relational skills is essential if we want to see the fruit of understanding the theory behind the skills. 

At THRIVEtoday we train in skill practices because that’s truly the only way new skills can be developed. The exercises are strategically designed to rewire your brain for building relational connection and growing in emotional and mental strength. Just like we must lift weights over and over to strengthen our muscles, relational skills require regular, repetitive practices to grow and develop!

The beauty of online courses, is you can do them at home and at your own pace. But sometimes we need a little support. No matter where you’re at, we have options for you to introduce and develop relational skill practices.

For the Foundational 5 skills, once you have a grasp of the theory behind the skill, we have practice courses ready for you move onto. Watch video lessons with Chris Coursey to help you practice and build habits that improve your life and relationships.

The Habit Builder is our full course with 12 lessons and coaching sessions. The Taster course has just 1 lesson from each section giving you a taste of the skill.

Build Your Habit

Habit Builder courses are designed to provide a collection of skill practices that create new, life-changing habits.

These courses are focused almost entirely on practice, with just a touch of theory. Chris Coursey leads you through a series of simple exercises that, when practiced with repetition, will create new connections in your brain and provide a foundation for building and maintaining relational connections where you recover from unpleasant emotions, and live with a sense of peace and stability.

Skill 11 Practice Courses

We all encounter multiple emotions in ourselves and others on a given day. But we often don’t know how to process and respond to these emotions in healthy ways. The Return to Joy skill helps us develop our ability to recognize and feel our feelings, and then share and quiet those feelings so we can recover or return to a state of peace and connection. 

Learning how to Return to Joy makes us more emotionally resilient and enables us to become like Jesus who remained His true self and recovered when things went wrong. As we grow this skill we learn to see emotions not as something to fear or avoid, but as opportunities to connect with others as we share both our joys and our pains!

Recommended Prerequisite: The Return to Joy skill is an advanced recovery skill that builds on a foundational understanding and practice of The Foundational 5 skills.

  • Before starting either course, we highly recommend taking The Foundational 5 Intro Course if you haven’t already developed a strong foundation in The Foundational 5 skills.
  • If you find it difficult to maintain joy and peace consistently, even when life is going well, we encourage you to focus on strengthening your capacity-building skills (The Foundational 5) before diving into this course.

Deepen your ability to ‘Return to Joy’ after upsets. Practice interactive exercises and plug into the nearness of Jesus as you walk through either of these Skill 11 Habit Builder courses step-by-step.

  • Learn and practice the FSQ process of feeling, sharing, and quieting your emotions.

  • A review of strengthening your relational capacity – the foundation to navigating emotions.
  • Develop emotional awareness to you can better recognize your emotions emotions.
  • Identify childhood models for the “Big 6” emotions – explore what we learn from them and gain perspective and insight from Jesus.

Practice Classes

Our Relational Skills Practice Class offers you a low-commitment and affordable opportunity to practice the relational skills you need to thrive in life. This 90-minute class will walk you through a sample session from one of our Habit Builder Courses.

In these popular groups we go step-by-step through a Habit Builder course with a THRIVEtoday facilitator. Practice with others as you study the course material in the support of a group. Spend an hour per week learning with others who want to practice too.

FACILITATING YOUR OWN GROUP

This resource is designed for group leaders to take your Small Group through The Foundational 5 Introductory Course. 

With multiple price options based on the size of your group and frequency you expect to run a group over a 12-month period.
